Clash of Steel: German - Skorpion Tank-Hunter Platoon

During the early days of the 1943, the German army was looking for solutions to combat the increasingly well armoured Soviet tanks that they were facing on the Eastern Front. The excellent Panther tank had, by this point, been rolling off the assembly lines for the past 12 months and combined good armour, excellent mobility and a good gun.

The Skorpion tank hunter was designed to make use of the already well proven Panther hull with the excellent 12.8cm PaK44 gun, also mounted on the heavily armoured Jagdtiger. Like many other Panzerjagers (or tank-hunters) the Skorpion didn’t have a fully enclosed or even particularly well armoured casemate, making for a simple design and something that could be carried on the Panther chassis.

Glass Cannon
The Skorpion is designed to take out big tanks with its first shot, not get in to sustained gun duels. It is best used from concealed positions or as an ambusher.

Panther Mobility
Despite having a very heavy gun mounted on the top of the tank, the Skorpion still retains the speed of its cousin, only the length of the gun causing it to be careful when crossing difficult terrain as it protrudes so far out in front and can more easily get caught up.

THIS BOX CONTAINS:
