The Comet is fast, mobile, well-armoured, and deadly. Easily one of the best medium tanks of the war, the Comet is the ultimate British cruiser tank.

Initially the Comet was supposed to be an upgunned Cromwell, but it ended up as a whole new tank. It had thicker armour and a new 77mm gun, while retaining the Cromwell’s speed, low profile, and high-explosive capability.

The gun used the same projectiles as the 17 pdr in a reengineered gun that fitted within a smaller space. The result was slightly less powerful than the 17 pdr, but still quite deadly to all but the heaviest German tanks.

Rolls-Royce Engine Power 

The Comet has the same 600 horsepower Rolls-Royce Meteor engine as the Cromwell. Its extra weight slows it slightly, but it is still as fast as a light tank and much faster than anything that may face it toe-to-toe. 

Well Protected

While not as thickly armoured as a Churchill or Centurion, the sprightly Comet has enough armour to bounce shots from medium tanks and the speed to pick its fights against heavier opponents.
