The M4A3E8 Sherman tank, better known as the Easy Eight, marked the pinnacle in the Sherman design. Essentially the same as the M4 76mm Sherman, the Easy Eight model introduced a new track and suspension system. The Horizontal Volute Suspension System (HVSS, for short) made it much easier to replace damaged road wheels and a new wide track was developed to improve the tank’s offroad performance.

Armed with a 76mm gun, the Easy Eight (and Jumbo) had improved firepower over older Shermans that were still armed with 75mm guns, but struggled to penetrate newer German tanks like the Panther. Improved ammunition like the High-Velocity, Armor-Piercing round which featured a slug of tungsten alloy helped to level the playing field.
